We are less than 120 days away for the first day of practice for the 2011-12 College Basketball season, and I’m already thinking about the direction of this site for its first full season. Yeah, I’m kind of basketball obsessed over here…

As I’ve said before, this past season was intended as a test run that got out of hand, in that I expected absolutely no one to find it at all, much less 2 days after I launched it. So I kind of hit the ground running with an unfinished idea, and an unfinished site to see what would happen.

As I finish my Early 2011-12 previews this month (Murray, SIUe still to come), I plan on taking much of July and August to update the site in preparation for a true inaugural season.

My biggest goal is to create a sense of community within the site, which is no easy task for large companies with entire departments dedicated to web design (and much more programming knowledge than I) much less for one guy who works 2 jobs and writes in his free time. So, I’ve come up with an idea that I’m dubbing the OVC Fan Project.

The first thing I want is to turn over some of the writing to you, the reader. Whether it’s once a month, or just once ever, I want to hear thoughts of fans from every OVC school; thoughts of people who probably get to see their teams play more than I do, and post them on the OVC Ball website. That’s not to say you’re getting rid of me, just I want more input from all of you. That being said, if you want to write, send me a shout by email or a message on twitter @OVCBall. You don’t have to be a “professional” writer, I’m not going to ask for proof of your writing or anything, and I’m not going to ask for a commitment. Whenever you have a chance and want to write, then do so. It’s really that simple.

I’m also looking for a way to share photos and videos on the site, at least a method that doesn’t require me manually posting each one. (Again, one person over here) I’ve found a couple of scripts that can help me with this, so I’m hoping to test and implement them over the summer.

Another possibility is a possible site design overhaul, but I haven’t decided yay or nay on this one. I like the design I have now, but I can’t help but feeling it’s a little cluttered. (Thoughts anyone?)

I’ve also floated around the idea of doing a weekly podcast, although that’s a down the road idea if it takes off at all.

On a personal note, I’ve agreed to start writing a bi-weekly “OVC Check-in” on the site Rush The Court that will start at the beginning of next season. The is a site with a national reputation, and I’m absolutely thrilled to get the chance to write for them.

Also, somehow, OVC Ball has managed to show up on the rotating linkroll at Mid Majority. I say “somehow” because, well, I don’t really know how or even when that happened, only that one day I was looking at the site, saw the link, and almost fell out of my chair. If you don’t know, Mid Majority is a national site that covers “the other 26” conferences, namely non-BCS affiliated conferences.

I want to offer a lot of thanks to the people that have supported this site, and me, throughout the past few months. I would mention many of them by name, but I’m not sure if they would want me to! I also want to thank the people inside the OVC itself who have been extremely kind in offering help, information, and even re-tweeting my own work on occasion. It’s always greatly appreciated.

Apologies, for this post the comments are closed.
