As teams begin to release their (tentative) non-conference schedule, it’s time to see what games could help make or break the teams season. We begin with the Austin Peay Governors.
Update: Austin Peay will take on host school California in the first regional round at the College Basketball Experience on August 15th. They’ll play against host Bowling Green, George Washington, and Detroit in the sub regional round. If they come out of the CBE 1-3 it will have been a good experience.
This is an fairly strong schedule for a team looking to make an OVC run, and give Peay a lot of credit for scheduling a lot of games in the state of Tennessee: It gives fans a chance to travel with the team if they wish, plus it puts the Governors on display to potential recruits in their home state. There’s 5-7 winnable games, almost no pushovers, and they have 6 true road games.
The Home-Home with Middle Tennessee (in the same month nonetheless) is sketchy, but the Home-Home with Belmont is entertaining to say the least and will give Peay a good edge with the Bruins joining the OVC in 2012-13. AP also gets two chances for a power conference upset, 7 days apart at the start of December.
