As teams begin to release their non-conference schedules, it’s time to see what games could help make or break the teams season. 4th on the list are the UT Martin Skyhawks.
UT Martin should have no problem knowing where they stand heading into OVC play. They play one of the best teams last year, one of the worst, and a whole lot in between.
The Skyhawks take part in the Global Sports Challenge for a second straight year, which will take them across 3 States within 6 days of each other to kick off their season. It will be interesting to see if Martin can hang with Ohio / Arkansas State in that road swing: that could tell us a lot about how much the Skyhawks have improved from last year.
After their opening salvo, they hit a stretch with 2 easily winnable games, before heading to Mississippi State and UAB. UTM will be one of 2 OVC teams facing the Blazers this season. (Murray being the other)
There one thing I notice is that there isn’t a stretch of more than 2 games where I would be confident of Martin pulling wins. Their schedule in December is winnable, but not of those games will be gimme’s either. If they can find a place to string together 3 wins, it could be their last 3 non-conference games before OVC play begins. They will hit the road twice in February, both against Kennesaw State and in the BracketBusters.
