Murray State has added now former UAB guard Dexter Fields to their roster. Fields will be eligible to play for the Racers starting in 2012-13, and will enter the Racers program with 2-years of eligibility remaining.
Fields apparently has been shopping around, more or less, this summer for a school to transfer to. Fields was reportedly considering transferring to UCF in his hometown of Orlando, Florida.
The 6’2 guard played in all 31 contests last year for the Blazers, starting 12. Fields was a 40% shooter, but a hit a rather surprising 37% from 3-point range, averaging 7 points a contest. His high point was a 24 point performance against Southern Miss. in a 75-71 loss last season. He also played in 29 games his freshman year.
Fields has seen OVC play once, scoring 10 against SEMO to open the 2010-11 season for the Blazers.
Overall, this appears to be a good pickup for the Racers. Fields was expected to be a stud out of high school; a McDonald’s All-American nominee, a three-star player by Rivals, and the 35th best shooting guard by Scout.com, playing for the top ranked team in Florida (and 30th best in the nation). He is expected to attend classes starting this week, and will be on the Racers roster in the 2012-13 season.
