Every Friday, I’ll scour the web looking for any OVC news or commentary, and post it here. Notice something that slipped through the cracks? Send me a message on Twitter or Facebook.
Not a whole lot going on this week, as the summer lull continues. Only one team, Eastern Illinois, released their schedule this week, still leaving Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Murray State, Morehead State, Tennessee Tech, and SIU Edwardsville (offically) to release theirs. As soon as they do, I’ll get the non-conference schedules posted with last season’s RPI.
Both Morehead State and Austin Peay will play on national TV during ESPN’s College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. Morehead State plays College of Charleston in the undesirable 7 a.m. game on ESPN, whereas the Governors play at Cal in a 9 p.m. ESPN2 game. Future OVC team Belmont faces off against Memphis at 11 a.m. on ESPN.
SIU Edwardsville added Deryl Cunningham to their coaching staff to replace Mark Allaria. Cunningham was previously an assistant at Indiana State.
Tennessee Tech also added an assistant, Happy Osborn, formerly the head coach at NAIA Georgetown College. Osborn won an NAIA National Championship in 1998.
General College Basketball
Big Apple Buckets discusses the impact JUCO recruiting has on Mid-Majors, something seen regularly in the OVC. Essentially, it’s feast or famine.
Non-Basketball Link of the Week
Remember Appalachian State? They were the team that shocked Michigan, winning in the Big House in 2007. Apparently, Michigan wants another shot, and will host Appalachian State again to open the 2014 season. If they lose again, the Wolverines should have to travel Boone, North Carolina for a rematch in 2015.
