As teams begin to release their non-conference schedules, it’s time to see what games could help make or break the teams season. Finally, we have the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.
I get it. For a team like Jacksonville State, one of the worst teams in the nation for much of the season last year (at least according to their RPI) scheduling cannot be easy. So I applaud the Gamecocks for a solid schedule. It starts with a gimme, but then has games at Marshall and at Cincinnati. Those are good matchups. Then they follow that with hosting Alabama State, and travel later in the month to the St. Mary’s Tournament.
There are not a lot of home games, with only 2 D-1 games at home over the schedule. Disappointing? Sure. But again, I get that of any team in the OVC, Jacksonville State probably doesn’t have it easy getting teams to head to their campus.
The question here…where will they get wins? This is a young team (11 new players on the roster) and there are no gimme’s for this team. The games hosting Alabama State and at Northwestern State will give us a good look at whether this team will be improved this season.
