That’s the story of Eastern Kentucky’s opener
The preseason All-SEC selection Dee Bost. led the way for the Bulldogs with 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, but he did turn the ball over 5 times. In fact, one of the most encouraging stats: EKU won the turnover battle 14-10. A less encouraging stat: The Colonels lost the rebounding battle 40-27.
4 players scored in double digits for the Colonels, led by 13 from Joshua Jones. Jones also had 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals in the loss. Mike DiNunno added 10 points, but missed 13 shots, 9 from 3-point range. If you take out his 2-11 performance behind the arc, the Colonels hit 8 of 22 (36%).
Player of The Game:Bost, hands down. 7-15 shooting, 4-8 from 3-point range, and he played 37 minutes for the Bulldogs, who only played 7 players all game.
The Difference:EKU struggled to hit 3’s in the first half, but they didn’t even get the free throw line until the last minute. They only shot 6 free throws the entire game, versus 19 for Mississippi State. I know that the Colonels offense isn’t really set up to draw a lot of fouls, but you have to get to the line more than that.
