Today’s life lesson, check the a.m. and p.m. on your alarm when setting it.
Now that I’m unintentionally good and rested, not a bad night for the OVC. Eastern Illinois picks up a overtime win over the still randomly scheduled Black Bears, the Cougars are in the win column thanks to 50% 3-point shooting (I think they’ve found something they’re good at!) and UTM…
Well it wasn’t a perfect night…
Here’s tonight’s Final Word:
[Maine 80, Eastern Illinois 85 OT] Gerald McLemore
may be the Black Bears leading scorer with over 19 points a game, and he may have scored 26 against Eastern Illinois, but since it took him 26 shots from the field to score that many points, I think the Panthers did a fairly good job containing the guard. Forward Alfonzo McKinnie
explodes again for the Panthers, scoring a team high 24 points on much-better-than-McLemore 9-12 shooting from the field, and the Panthers shoot 27-35 from the free throw line. Maine? 4-4. No really, the Panthers out shot the Black Bears by 31 at the charity stripe.
[Robert Morris (IL) 61, SIU Edwardsville 85] The Cougars trouble scoring is something I’ve explored here before, but I have noticed that when SIU Edwardsville has success, a lot of it can be attributed to their success shooting behind the arc. The Cougars are shooting over 40% from 3-point range this season, after hitting 11-22 from 3-point range in the win over the Eagles. Guard Kris Davis had a breakout game, scoring a game high 25 points on 8-11 shooting. The Cougars won the rebounding battle against the less athletic Eagles 44-27 on their way to their first win of the season.
