Well, an OVC team finally went an did it.

And, no, “it” is not a good thing.

But I don’t want to focus on that. Not because I called the team a sleeper team in yesterday’s first word…

Because at least Jacksonville State has a win under their belt.

Austin Peay…Not so much.

Here’s today’s Final Word:

[Austin Peay 59, Lipscomb 67] You know what, just wake me up when it’s over. The Governors losing streak has reached 8 to start the season, despite holding Lipscomb to 34% shooting from the field. 23 turnovers are partially to blame, as is the Governors 2-17 shooting from 3-point range. TyShwan Edmondson isn’t off to the best of starts this season, shooting 3-12 in this contest, dragging his season FG% under 40. 4 Bisons, all starters, finished with double digit scoring, (only 8 points were scored off the bench) with center Justin Glenn finishing with a double-double. (12 points, 12 rebounds)
[San Francisco St. 71, Jacksonville State 68] Speaking of waking up…when I called the Gamecocks a “sleeper team” what I should have said is they are a “sleepwalking team” And the past 2 days is making me question my “don’t preview non D-I opponents” strategy. Free Throws prove to be the difference, as the two teams stat lines are fairly similar down the board except for a 12 shot advantage for the Gators from the charity stripe. Jacksonville State was outrebounded by the Division II squad, the turned the ball over more than the Division II squad, they allowed 46% field goal shooting from the Division II squad, and Stephen Murphy faded again against the Division II squad.

Not a good night for the OVC.

  1. Mike:
As a JSU fan, all I can say is that I am absolutely baffled. I often compare this team to the JSU teams of the past few years, looking for some light at the end of this dark tunnel. At times, I see some. Then, this happens. This doesn't even compare to the horrid teams of the past five years...this is worse. Those teams never lost to a D-II team. They made it close, but always pulled it out somehow.

On the bright side, it can't get worse than this (can it?). Almost every team has a bottom point in their season, and hopefully this is ours. Are we this Are we the team that outscored Cincinnati and Weber State in the 2nd half of those The truth is somewhere in between, and is probably something I want to deny. This is the same team that has won 5, 11, 11, 7, and 9 since 06-07. They will fold on the road in conference play. They will scare the heck out of some of the top teams in the conference at the Pete, but won't make the big plays when needed. They will fight it out with UTM, SIU-E, and SEMO or EIU for the last spot in the playoffs, like they always do.

Now I will put a paper bag on my head, and go about my day.
