So after a…we’ll call it disappointing, night, the OVC has a chance to get two wins on the road tonight as Eastern Kentucky faces Delaware State, and SEMO head coach Dickie Nutt leads the Redhawks into his old home to face Arkansas State.
At least no one can lose to a Division II squad tonight.
Because as we learned yesterday, if given the chance, they just might.
Here’s today’s First Word:
[Eastern Kentucky (3-4) at Delaware State (2-3) 6:00 p.m. CST] Don’t let the Hornets 2-3 record fool you, because they’ve yet to beat a Division I team. They’ve also yet to host a Division I team, which they will tonight for the first time. Freshman guard Tahj Tate is leading the Hornets (yes, led by a freshman, which should tell you a lot about this team) with just over 20 points a game. Don’t expect too much scoring: both teams like to play slower, half-court basketball, and because of their slower pace, both teams rarely turn over the basketball.
[SEMO (3-3) at Arkansas State (1-4) 7:05 p.m. CST] The final score of the Red Wolves last outing against Louisville: 54-27. Yes, they scored just 27 points. In fact, they’ve only broke 60 twice: in their only win over UT Martin, and in a 3-point loss to Lamar. So unlike SEMO, this team isn’t a real threat of shooting you out of their gym. But they make up for their lackluster offense, to a point, with a stingy defense that allows 62 points a game. Too bad they only average 50.
