Today is going to be better. Today is going to be a good day. Today, OVC teams are going to pick up wins.
(It’s all about the power of positive thinking folks)
3 games on today’s slate, including winless SIU Edwardsville hosting NAIA Robert Morris (IL).
Say what you want, I have faith in the Cougars.
Some. A little. Sort of.
Here’s today’s first word:
[Maine (2-1) at Eastern Illinois (3-2) 7:00 p.m.] Here’s the first game of the random home-home Eastern Illinois is playing with Maine this season. The Black Bears are only 3 games into the season, but so far haven’t had much problems shooting the ball, hitting 50% from the field as team and 39% from 3-point range. Their 2 top scorers, both averaging at or above 20 points a game, are 60% shooters in this early part of the season. Oh, and they’re one of the best 10 at not turning over the basketball. Yeah, this sounds like an easy matchup.
[Central Arkansas (2-3) at UT Martin (2-5) 7:00 p.m.]To say Central Arkansas has had a problem defending people is an understatement. But, as they proved against Eastern Illinois Saturday, they don’t necessarily have to. They are not a 3-point shooting team, proving by only hitting 1 on their way to 107 points in their double OT win over the Panthers. (They only shot 6) LaQuentin Miles
is their top threat, averaging over 18 points a game.
[Robert Morris (IL) at SIU Edwardsville (0-4) 7:00 p.m.] You want to know why I have faith in the Cougars? They are 8-0 all time against the Eagles, including a 74-40 drumming last season. In fact, in those 8 wins, 3 have been by 34 points. That being said, this year’s version of the Eagles are 4-1, shooting better than 50% from the field, and averaging 88 points a game compared to SIUe’s 58. They’re also allowing their opponents over 84 points a game, so there are some defense issues with the Eagles. Whether the Cougars offense can take advantage of that…well we’ll see.
