Update: Powell apparently has an ACL sprain, this according to multiple media sources in Cape Girardeau. This is great new for Powell, and the Redhawks. The preseason all-OVC selection may be able to play as soon as this Friday against Missouri.

Original Post: SEMO became the second OVC team to drop an exhibition game this season Monday Night in a 68-63 loss to Harding University, but the story out of Cape Girardeau isn’t losing the game, but the possible loss of senior forward Leon Powell. Powell played only 2 minutes against Harding before coming down awkwardly on the same knee that he injured two years ago. That injury cost Powell to miss the entire 2009-10 season.

According to SEMO’s athletics website, Powell will undergo an x-ray this morning.

Powell was picked to the preseason all-OVC team. Obviously, this will be a huge loss for the Redhawks if Powell is out for any extended period of time. It’s also a huge loss from Powell, who was expected to be the one of the dominant forwards in the OVC this year. Here’s hoping it’s not serious.
