In case you missed it yesterday, here were the OVC awards for the week:

Player: Robert Covington (Tennessee St.)
Newcomer: Tarvin Gaines (Jacksonville St.)
Freshman: Miles Taylor (UT Martin)

Which leads me to my pick for Unsung Hero for week 2. I made mention of this in last week’s article for Rush the Court, but it’s really hard to shine when you’re one of many good players on a good team. That being said, this candidate has been doing just that.

The week 2 award for OVC Ball’s Unsung Hero goes to…

Isaiah Canaan, Murray State.

Canaan put up 17.5 points a game in 2 contests against Tennessee Temple and UAB for the Racers, hitting 6-13 from 3-point range, and 9-10 from the FT line. For the season, Canaan is shooting 48% from the field, and 44% from 3-point range, leading the Racers in both scoring and assists.

Robert Covington (TENN STATE) not EIU.

Yeahhh...that falls in the "I don't know what I was thinking" category. Thanks for pointing it out, it's been corrected.
