No matter how close a game is supposed to be, if I am in attendance, it won’t be that close.
But since it was the OVC team winning big, I guess I can’t really complain too much about it.
Here’s tonight’s Final Word:
[Dayton 58, Murray State 75] Full Recap. One thing that didn’t make the recap is how effective Dayton was when they were able to penetrate. Take away the 3-21 3-point shooting, they were 22-30 from inside the arc. The only penetration they could get was off the dribble, (passing into the paint led to too many turnovers) and after the game Prohm admitted that sometimes the Racers played too tight on their man, allowing for the dribble penetration. I’ve long thought that if the Racers do have a weakness, it’s size, which could cause problems when facing teams like SEMO or Tennessee Tech. But they’ve got to get the ball to their bigs, and the Racers are great at stopping that from happening.
[Mid Continent College 57, Morehead State 83] One way to look at this is that Morehead State, a team that has struggled mightily all season, is a respectable 4-5. The way I prefer to look at the Eagles is that they’re only 1-5 against teams from NCAA Division I. Junior Marsell Holden scored a career high 20 points in the win, but the Eagles still turned over the ball 16 times. Sure, they forced 25, but you’re supposed to force turnovers against non D-I teams. You’re not supposed to turn it over yourself. Freshman Angelo Warner got his first start for the Eagles, and put up 14 points and 9 rebounds. The Eagles did win the rebounding battle, thanks to 24 offensive rebounds. They only had 20 defensive boards.
