Tonight, the search for Austin Peay’s first win continues, against an Arkansas State team taking on their 3rd OVC opponent of the year. SEMO travels to play a Central Arkansas team playing their 3rd straight OVC opponent.
Are they auditioning to join the OVC?
Here’s today’s First Word:
[Arkansas State (3-4) at Austin Peay (0-9) 7:05 p.m. CST] The Red Wolves are not a great offensive team, which is good news for the Governors, because they’re not a great defensive team. But Arkansas State is hitting better than 40% from three, and been solid defensively this season, which the Red Wolves have used to beat SEMO and UT Martin already this season. But this is still the same Arkansas State team that scored just 27 points in a loss to Louisville 2 weeks ago. The Governors 3-point shooting is one of the worst in the nation (23.5%) with TyShwan Edmondson setting the tone hitting 12-50 from behind the arc. Austin Peay must find a way to keep the Red Wolves off the boards: 3 Arkansas State players average more than 5 rebounds a game.
[SEMO (4-4) at Central Arkansas (3-3) 7:30 p.m. CST] Not much has changed with the Bears since the last time we saw them. Their defense is bad, their shooting is good (just not from 3-point range), their rebounding is in the top 10 in the nation, and they’ve won 2 straight over OVC teams. (Eastern Illinois, UT Martin) We finally saw what the Redhawks can do when Leon Powell can stay out of foul trouble, which the Redhawks will need to take on the Bears slashers, namely LaQuentin Miles.
