In the good news department: Morehead State’s offense didn’t betray them tonight at all. That happens when you go up against the Tennessee State defense. But with good news there’s usually the bad, and that would be when Morehead’s perimeter defense took a 20-minute siesta, also known as the 2nd half. And still, the Eagles only lost by 5.
Here’s tonight’s Final Word:
[Morehead State 72 (8-10, 2-3), Tennessee State 77 (9-9, 2-3)] Remember how when Isaiah Canaan went off against the Governors I asked how could Austin Peay not make the adjustment. Tonight, I have the same question about the Eagles. After Robert Covington goes 3-4 from behind the arc in the first half, he manages to hit 4 more in the second. At least Austin Peay made the adjustment at half, because it appears the Eagles didn’t make the adjustment at all.
Covington finished 7-9 from deep, the Tigers hit 8-11 as a team in the 2nd half, and 13 total 3’s for the game, and still barely skate by Morehead State to earn their 2nd OVC win of the season.
You can still be somewhat encouraged if your an Eagles fan as getting road wins in the OVC has been very challenging so far this season, and you still were able to shoot 49% from the field in the 3rd full game without your leading scorer. Tennessee State is going to score on a lot of teams, and it’s your offense that has me the most worry, so tonight’s result is somewhat encouraging.
