I haven’t given a lot of thought yet to my preseason rankings for next season yet, but I think I may know who I’m putting in last place.
Another Eastern Illinois player is leaving town, as the school continues their search for their next coach. Although this one is much less surprising.
Former head coach Mike Miller’s son, Joey Miller, plans to transfer to Illinois-Chicago according to the Journal Gazette and Times Courier. (Which has to be the worst amalgation of every generic name used in newspaper titles.)
The 6’3″ freshman Miller averaged 10 points and almost 3 assists a game last season for the Panthers.
Despite being the team’s leading point guard, Miller recieved much flak on this site and the OVC Fans message board from fans for being the coaches son and playing more minutes as a result, although personally I didn’t see a better option on the bench to fill his spot. While I suspect many won’t be too sad to see Miller leave, the team’s top 4 scorers from this past season have either graduated or are transfering out, and the 5th highest scorer spent much of last season injured.
Whenever this school does pick a coach, they’re going to be left with a huge uphill battle in the coming season.
