Nolan Richardson III, the son of former Arkansas and Tulsa basketball coach Nolan Richardson, has died. Police say he was found dead in his Tulsa home Sunday afternoon. Despite being just 47 years of age, police say it’s likely he died of natural causes.

Richardson III was also a coach for more than 2 seasons at Tennessee State. The school released this statement:

Nashville, Tenn. – Tennessee State University Athletics Director Teresa Phillips has released the following statement following the death of former men’s basketball coach Nolan Richardson III:

“I was very saddened yesterday to hear of the death of Nolan Richardson III. My thoughts immediately went to his wife, children and of course his father. My deepest condolences go out to the Richardson family during this very difficult time in their lives.”

Richardson III spent two-plus seasons at the helm of the Big Blue basketball program from 2000 until 2003. He compiled a record of 23-41 during his time at Tennessee State.
