Despite playing in 29 games, and starting nine in his freshman season, walk-on Dre Mathieu wasn’t told he was getting a scholarship to continue playing at Morehead State.

So he’s not.

Knox News is reporting that Mathieu will transfer to Central Arizona College.

Why a JUCO program? Simple: He didn’t want to sit out a year.

Honestly, this isn’t surprising. New head coach Sean Woods will want to bring in his own players, and since Matheiu didn’t have a scholarship to begin with, there’s not a big reason for Woods to keep him, since he can use that slot for a player he feels fits within his style, not Donnie Tyndall’s.
