OVC Football Media Day is July 23rd, which means it’s the first time I’ll get to speak to the OVC football coaches.

Do you have a question for one of the coaches? Post it in the comments below, and I’ll try to get it asked.

Also on Monday, we should get the first OVC preseason poll. After last season’s log jam at the top of the standing, one of about 8 teams could come out on top.

Basically all but SEMO…   (edit: and EIU…and Austin Peay. So a 6-team race, realistically)

Post your questions below, or send them to me on Twitter @OVCBall.

I'd like to know if there will be any further discussion of conference expansion in the foreseeable future and if / when the OVC will ever attempt at TV deal or ESPN3 deal for OVC football. Looking forward to hearing about what happens on the 23rd. I'm predicting EKU at the top of the preseason poll, followed by Murray and Jax State.

The OVC has used money to increase the technology within the league. With this technology, will now become free to all instead of being a membership type thing. The technology should bring high quality streaming to the OVC in sports such as Volleyball, Football, Men's/Women's Basketball, Baseball and Softball as of right now. Ideally this will be great for the league and will make online streaming just that much better for fans.
  2. jaxsigep94:
Does the conference plan to institute a "Football Enhancement Plan" much like the Basketball Enhancement Plan to encourage growth of and maintenance of OVC football programs?

Why so hard on SEMO football all of the time? They won the conference the year before last. Last year they only won 3 games but lost to Jack State by 1 point, Murray by 1 point, and lost to Tech and Martin each by a touchdown. So easily could have had seven wins. They have their whole offense back except for the quarterback. They are replacing him with Kyle Snyder, a former two star recruit out of Ohio, who played some for University of Ohio as a Freshman last year. Most of their defense is also back. They have an All-American on each side of the ball (Conrad and Peiffer) and actually have an additional former All-American on defense (Brock). From most things I've read they have one of the better recruiting classes in the OVC this year. They just put in a couple of million dollars into the stadium last year to make improvements. Not saying they are going to be great this year, just saying that they arent Austin Peay.

Stadium comment aside (better stadiums don't make better teams, in my opinion) you bring up some very valid points. While I think Snyder does have a potential upside...I don't think that this year he's going to be a top tier QB in the OVC. Maybe by his senior year, sure. Not this year. the "won the conf. year before last" part...2 years is a lifetime in college football. Ask EIU. 2 years ago, they looked like they were on the rise. Since then: 3 OVC wins in 2 years...and they now have a new coach. I'm not saying SEMO is going that route, but last season was very disappointing, even given how many of the losses were close. Could they turn it around? Absolutely. I'm just not sold that they actually will. But hey, they can always prove me wrong. I'll try to be more fair to the Redhawks in the future. Thanks for reading.

Obviously the last question was for Catlin and not for the OVC Media Day.
