Four Ohio Valley Conference players finished in the top-20 in the nation for the Walter Payton Award, including one just outside the top 3 finalists invited to the award ceremony.
The Walter Payton award honors the top offensive player at the FCS level. The winner won’t be released until December 17th, but 4th – 20th have been.
EIU’s Erik Lora finished 4th, and Murray State’s Casey Brockman finished 6th, despite having more first place votes than Lora. EIU’s Jimmy Garoppollo finished 10th, and EKU’s Matt Denham finished 19th.
The 26th Walter Payton Award will be handed out on Dec. 17 in Philadelphia, Pa. The three finalists invited to the ceremony were Old Dominion quarterback Tyler Heinicke, Wofford running back Eric Breitenstein and Stony Brook running back Miguel Maysonet.
