Just as the picture for who will be the conference champion is shaping up, so is our power rankings. No longer do I have to decide who is the top team, now its the battle for 3rd which really tiebreaker helps me out. Just a head’s up for people wanting to know when basketball ranking starts, I will start ranking teams in
December as its just unfair to rank before the chemistry has developed. Back to football now and lets rank’em!

1) Tennessee Martin 7-2 (5-1)

The Skyhawks are clicking at the right time of the season and are making the final playoff push. The title is right in their sights and the offense has come alive, and showing it can bail out its great defense when they have a bad day. This was something we didn’t think was possible earlier in the year.  11/10 @Tennessee Tech

2) Eastern Illinois 6-3 (5-1)

Eastern Illinois is certainly deserving of winning the title and on any given day could win against anyone, but the team ahead of them did beat them on a given day. I bet they wish that they could play Tennessee State but now are in position to root for the Tigers who could give them the championship.  11/10 vs Southeast Missouri

3) Tennessee State 8-2 (4-2)

You can only play the hand your dealt, and the early home heavy schedule really hurt this team. Two big road games, and two big losses that have all but ended their chance at a championship. They do have a chance though but that is for another time to discuss, they will take need to advantage of this week’s bye before facing off in a game on the road again. 11/17 @ UT Martin

4) Eastern Kentucky 7-3 (4-2)

Just imagine how different things would be if this team had shown up the week before against Eastern Illinois, too bad you can’t do it. The Colonels are a very good defense and they showed it forcing the Redhawks into three turnovers and never relenting the entire game.  11/10 vs Murray State

5) Jacksonville State 5-4 (4-3)

Gamecocks came so close to upsetting the top team on this list and should have made it into overtime, where we have seen this season how good they are. Special teams are so important and I guess its karma. They beat Tennessee State thanks to special teams, and it was returned late in the third quarter with a missed PAT. Tough loss but this team just like most in this conference is very good. 11/10 vs Austin Peay

6) Murray State 4-5 (3-3)

The Racers finally played up to their potential in a big game. Murray State could have caved in coming off a tough loss to Jacksonville State and the atmosphere was very pro-Tigers, who had brought their amazing band (band geek moment). They stepped up and took advantage of the weakened secondary of the Tigers and got the win, making my job a little easier for a conference champion. 11/10 @ Eastern Kentucky

7) Southeast Missouri 3-6 (2-4)

Southeast Missouri, well you ran into a mad Colonel team that I’m sure got chewed out by their coaching staff and they took it out on you. You did hold one of the best rushers in the league to under 100 yards (Denham got 99) so that was a positive. People can look at the numbers and say QB didn’t throw enough, well the way the Redhawks play is run on all three downs. Suggestion is to do more play action from me. 11/10 @ Eastern Illinois

8) Tennessee Tech 2-7 (0-6)

I really wanted to put this team above Southeast Missouri and see if anyone actually reads this and would make a comment. They are a very talented team and have shown it, sad thing is games don’t end at halftime. They struggle it seems with adjustments made at halftime and that’s what has cost them victories, but injuries have set them back too. If Lamb is healthy the conference picture could have a five way tie. 11/10 vs UT Martin

9) Austin Peay 1-8 (0-6)

Congratulations to the Austin Peay Governors, I don’t have to put a zero in the win column anymore. Enough with the sarcasm, its been a tough season but you have to play with the schedule the conference and your coaching staff pick (go look at next year’s non conference games). However it must have felt good erupting for 49 points in the first half against a team. Interesting fact coming into the game the Govs had only scored 107 pts, scored 56 in one game. 11/10 @ Jacksonville State
