Murray State point guard All-American Isaiah Canaan will miss his second straight practice today, dealing with a foot injury. The pre-season All-American is expected to resume practice tomorrow, according to Michael Grant of the Courier-Journal, and is expected to play on Thursday when Murray State travels to UT Martin.
The injury was apparently either sustained or aggravated during the Racers loss to Valparaiso on Saturday.
Canaan has struggled somewhat this year, despite averaging over 21-points a game. His shooting percentage has fallen slightly, as has his shooting from behind the arc, although both numbers remain above his sophomore numbers. The preseason OVC player of the year missed a potential game-tying three late in Saturday’s loss, and was clearly frustrated in the post game press conference.
The team has struggles as well, with Saturday’s third loss exceeding their total from last year. The Racers are still 9-3, and 2nd in the conference in RPI, behind OVC newcomer Belmont.
The Racers are very short on experienced players at the moment, relying solely on freshman off the bench until the return of Latreze Mushatt, expected within the next few weeks, possibly even as soon as Thursday.
