Alec Brown is a 7’1″ center for Wisconsin-Green Bay, and is getting a fair amount of attention as a possible NBA draft pick. In fact, NBA scouts were in Cookeville to get a look at the center, who has gotten off to a slow start this year.
I’m going to guess the scouts weren’t wholly impressed. Brown played just 22 minutes thanks in part to foul trouble, and held to just 6-points, and season low four rebounds, as Tennessee Tech beat the Phoenix 74-68.
After leading for most of the second half, the Golden Eagles had to hold a late rally. A layup by Lanerryl Johnson with 24 seconds would put the game away. Johnson finished with a career-best 22 points in the win.
Senior Jud Dillard had a game-high 23 points, playing the final two minutes with his head encircled by purple tape to hold a bandage in place over a gash on his chin. It’s Dillard’s fifth 20+ point game of the year. Junior point guard Jeremiah Samarrippas added 15 points and five assists.
Green Bay was led in scoring by Keiffer Sykes with 18 points while Brennan Cougill added 17 points.
It was lights out in the first half, as each squad shot 54 percent from the field and right at 50 percent from long range.
Tennessee Tech starts a long road trip tomorrow when they travel to Gardner Webb.
