In the end, there proved to only be one game of consequence today when it comes to the OVC Tournament, but that doesn’t mean others weren’t important. As many people want to talk about it “being a new season” and everyone has a chance, what happened today, and in the weeks previous are important to the outcome.
It’s a good thing for the Skyhawks they had the 8-seed wrapped up before tip off tonight. Because they were done from the word go. Austin Peay puts on one of the most impressive wins of the season, finishing the year 8-23, and 4-12 in the conference. UT Martin wins a three-way tie for eighth, and will play in next week’s OVC Tournament.
EKU missed two chances at game winners in regulation, and hit just 1-9 shots in the overtime period as TSU closed out their regular season with a win at home. The teams tied the series, and enter the OVC Tournament with single-byes.
No seed was at stake, but SEMO and Murray State are heading in much different direction with the OVC Tournament on the horizon. Southeast Missouri swept their Austin Peay / Murray State road swing for the first time ever. Murray State has lost two at home heading into next week’s tournament as the two-seed.
