Belmont’s first year in the Ohio Valley Conference qualifies as a rousing success. The Ohio Valley Conference Champions are the top seeds and prohibitive favorites to take the title in their own backyard. Even if the Bruins are eliminated, a NCAA Tournament appearance may be in their future.
It’s hasn’t been the season, or the finish that Racer fans hoped for. But Murray State is the two seed, and two wins away from heading back to the NCAA Tournament. Those two wins likely won’t come easy for the squad that finished the year 2-4.
Through the first day, seeds have held in Nashville, with Southeast Missouri and Morehead State earning fairly tough victories on the tournament’s opening day. Today enters two serious title contenders from the East, but neither may be all that excited about today’s Matchup.
Tyler Stone leads the Redhawks charge, scoring 24 points on 11-12 shooting, as Southeast Missouri rides a first-half run to a 78-68 win over Eastern Illinois. SEMO cools off from three, if only slightly, hitting 8-20 int the win.
When the news of Myles Taylor‘s injury came down, the Eagles must have been giddy. But UT Martin puts up a fight, falling 73-66 despite being doubled-up on the boards. The fifth seed Eagles advance to play fourth seed Tennessee State in tomorrow’s quarterfinals.
