Austin Peay State University will begin interviewing candidates this week for its vacant head football coaching position.

The position came open in late January when Rick Christophel stepped down after six seasons to become tight ends coach with the Arizona Cardinals.

Austin Peay hopes to have its next head coach-the program’s 18th-on board when the Governors spring practice, Monday, March 18.

The candidates for the position, along with a brief synopsis of their coaching history plus the dates of their respective on-campus interviews, are:

Kirby Cannon, defensive backs coach, Central Michigan, 2010-; head coach, Missouri University of Science and Technology, 1999-2010; assistant football coach, Western Illinois, 1997-99; assistant head coach/defensive coordinator, Northern Michigan, 1995-97; defensive coordinator, Northeast Missouri State (now Truman State), 1993-95; defensive coordinator, North Central College, 1985-89.

Granville Eastman, interim head coach, Austin Peay, 2013-; defensive coordinator, Austin Peay, 2005-13; defensive backs coach, Austin Peay, 2003-04; defensive coordinator, Tiffin University, 1999-2002.
