Normally, a simple basketball spread doesn’t warrant it’s own post. But with the Bruins earning their highest seed in school history, and being tasked with keeping the Ohio Valley Conference’s four-year win streak alive, I thought it was worth noting.
Belmont is opening as a four-point underdog to Arizona. The Bruins will face the Wildcats on Thursday in Salt Lake City, UT. Tip is scheduled for 6:20 p.m. CST on TNT.
It’s actually the larges spread of the 6-11 games. MTSU and St. Mary’s are in a play-in game on Tuesday. Minnesota is actually a three-point favorite over six seed UCLA. In the East Region, 11th seeded Bucknell is a 3.5 point underdog to 6-seeded Butler.
The Bruins are a trendy upset pick among many pundits in the first round, but almost all have New Mexico moving on to the Sweet 16, regardless who wins the Belmont / Arizona matchup.
If Belmont gets past the first round, the Bruins will face the winner of New Mexico and Harvard on Saturday.
