The final puzzle piece in the OVC’s postseason puzzle has fallen into place. Eastern Kentucky has accepted a bid to the College Insider Postseason Tournament (CIT). The Colonels will open play at Gardner-Webb on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
This is Eastern’s first postseason appearance since playing in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) in 2010 and third postseason trip in the last eight years. EKU lost to the College of Charleston in the CBI. The Colonels played in the NCAA Tournament in 2007
Second-round CIT games will be played March 22-24, quarterfinal games March 26-27 and semifinal games March 29-30. The championship game will be played on April 2.
Gardner-Webb had the second-best record in the Big South Conference at 11-5. Charleston Southern and High Point each finished 12-4. The Colonels beat High Point on the road, 73-70, on Dec. 21. Eastern also beat Big South-member Radford, 83-75, at home earlier this season.
Eastern Kentucky will join Tennessee State in the CIT. Belmont will play Arizona in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. Murray State and Southeast Missouri turned down bids to play in the CBI or CIT.
