The Ohio Valley Conference women’s champion UT Martin were selected as the 16 seed this evening and will play one seed Notre Dame in Iowa City, Iowa on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. central time and will broadcast on ESPN2.

This is the third straight appearance for the Skyhawks, who had to overcome a rough regular season before winning 8 straight games to close out the regular and postseason. The Skyhawks have experience already this season against one seeds Baylor and Stanford in November.

The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame are currently 30-1, winners of the Big East and are led by All American guard Skylar Diggins who paces the third highest scoring team in the nation.

The two programs share a common oppenent in top seed Baylor with the Skyhawks falling 82-67 to the Lady Bears, and the Fighting Irish falling 73-61.

In their previous two postseason appearances the Skyhawks were given the 15 seed  falling to instate powerhouse Tennessee 72-49 in 2012 , and Duke 90-45 in 2011.

After winning the OVC tournament championship guard Heather Butler said, “We’re glad we got the the NCAA Tournament but we want to win games there.” For the Skyhawks the chance to pull the upset is possible as they boast two on the nation’s top 10 scorers in Butler and OVC player of the year Jasmine Newsome.
