The Houston Texans drafted former Jacksonville State wide receiver Alan Bonner with their pick in the sixth round today. He was the second Ohio Valley player drafted in this year’s draft.
“It’s been a long journey and it’s just a blessing,” Bonner said after learning of his draft selection. “I’m just so excited to have the opportunity to continue my playing career. I’m ready to take my game to a whole another level,” added Bonner.
Bonner got better in each year at Jacksonville State in both catches and yards finishing this past season with 50 receptions for 859 yards and 8 touchdowns He finished his Gamecock career with 114 receptions for 1986 yards and 20 touchdowns which leaves him second all-time in Gamecock history for yards and touchdowns.
Bonner is currently Jacksonville State’s career leader in punt returns and punt return yards.
Bonner is the 8th player in JSU history to be drafted and the first since cornerback Darrell Malone went to the Kansas Chiefs in 1991.
