The Governor defense turned two red team turnovers into 14 points as the white team defeated the red 52-25 in a specially scored scrimmage for fans at Governor Stadium.
Both turnovers occurred in the second half with the first coming on a botched pitch to Darryl Clack that was picked up by lineman Nii Lartey for the 70 yard touchdown. The defense kept up the pressure and got a pick six from Tyreon Clark for a 65 yard touchdown.
“I saw a lot of things out there,” APSU coach Kirby Cannon said. “We certainly didn’t play perfectly but I thought our effort was good throughout. There were more good things than bad. There was improvement defensively to a point I think we can be a pretty good defensive football team if they don’t have to play too many plays.
But the new head coach said things need to get better on the offensive end. Quarterback Jacob Sexton who had been limited in practice after a thigh injury sustained last weekend put on a show completing 14 of 16 passes for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns.
