Murray State is adding some experience to their roster. The Racers have signed JUCO forward Jonathan Fairell of Indian River State College.
Fairell shot 66 percent from the field, scoring 17.7 points per game, and ended his sophomore season fourth in the NJCAA with 11.8 rebounds per game.
Fairell played prep basketball at Carol City High School in Miami, Fla.
“With the loss of three front court players, we’re losing a lot of experience,” Prohm said. “So we wanted to identify junior college players that could provide immediate toughness and experience to our team. I think Jonathan will provide us with those things.”
“He has a great physicality and can score around the basket,” Prohm added. “I’m looking forward to him joining us this summer.”
“Jonathan is an outstanding worker,” Indian River head coach Joe Sanchez said. “He’s the type of young man who enjoys every second of instruction and every second of competition. He enjoys a challenge and is the most improved player over two years that I’ve ever coached.”
Jonathan plays with such intensity,” Sanchez added. “He runs the floor extremely well for his size and has a knack for rebounding.”
Fariell joins the Racers 2013 class that also includes 6-2 guard Cameron Payne of Memphis, Tenn. (Lausanne Collegiate School), Jarvis Williams, a 6-7 forward from Irwinton, Ga. (Gordon State College) and 6-3 guard T.J. Sapp from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., who is a transfer student-athlete from Clemson.
