Morehead’s busy spring signing season continues with a Charlotte transfer with three years of Division I experience. The Eagles have added DeMario Mayfield, a former Georgia Bulldog before transferring to Charlotte.
Mayfield has one year of eligibility remaining, and will be able to play this upcoming season.
“DeMario will bring a lot to the table for us,” head coach Sean Woods said. “He already has three years of high-level Division I experience, which will certainly help our program. DeMario is a great shooter and passer. He is also mature, athletic and will fit our up-and-down style well.”
Mayfield averaged 11.2 points as a redshirt sophomore at Charlotte and 11.7 points as a redshirt junior. He also posted 7.0 rebounds per game and recorded six double-doubles in 2011-12.
“DeMario has played against some very talented basketball players because the Southeastern and Atlantic 10 conferences are both very good,” Woods said. “We are glad DeMario will be eligible right away. He will be able to make big contributions for us, both offensively and defensively.”
“DeMario is a very talented guy who will be able to play shooting guard or either forward position for us,” Woods added. “He’ll be able to get past people off the dribble and post up smaller guards.”
