The NBA pre-draft combine is over, and while it’s importance to the draft process will continue to be debated for, well, ever, here’s how the two former OVC players stacked up at the combine.

Isaiah Canaan

Wingspan: 6’4.5″
Standing Reach: 7’10.5″

Hand Length: 8.25″
Hand Width: 9″

Results

Three-quarter time: 3.22 (Best: 3.08)
Lane-agility time: 10.98 (Best: 10.19)
Modified time: 2.89 (Best: 2.69)
Standing Leap: 33″ (Best: 35.5″)
Maximum Leap: 40.5″ (Best: 44″)

Thoughts

For those that watched the ESPN coverage of the combine, you could be excused from thinking Isaiah wasn’t even at the combine, as the announcers regularly talked about anyone and everyone else when Canaan was on the court. But for the most part, Canaan did really well. Canaan was one of a handful of players to finish in the top-20 on all of the combine tests, and seemed to show rather clearly that his 6’0″ size isn’t going to be a detriment at the next level. I’m not certain he did enough to separate himself from a talented group of point guards, but Canaan is still very much in the mix to go in the first round.

Robert Covington

Measurements

Height without shoes: 6′ 6.25″
Height with shoes: 6′ 7.5″
Weight: 208.6
Wingspan: 7′ 1.75″
Standing Reach: 8’10”
Body fat: 4.7%
Hand Length: 9″
Hand Width: 8.5″

Results

Three quarter time: 3.34 (Best: 3.08)
Lane Agility time: 11.69 (Best: 10.19)
Modified Time: 3.1 (Best: 2.69)
Standing Leap: 29.5″ (Best: 35.5″)
Maximum Leap: 36″ (Best: 44″)

Thoughts

Covington knows he’s a border line draft pick, and I can’t imagine the combine did anything to hurt that status. Quite a few forwards came in with surprisingly high body-fat percentages, something Covington very much did not. His numbers in the standing and maximum leap could have been a bit stronger, but he’s a good size, did moderately well in the agility tests, and appears very much like a second round draft pick.
