We’ve known for weeks that the the football future of Jacksonville State QB Coty Blanchard rested with the MLB draft. Now that the draft is over, what does that future hold?
That’s…not completely clear yet.
Blanchard was picked in the 15th round of the MLB Draft this past weekend by the Tampa Bay Rays, improving greatly upon his 41st round pick in 2010. Blanchard, according to the Anniston Star, is expected to sign a contract with the Rays mid-week.
Does that mean Blanchard will forgo his senior year with the Gamecocks football team? Well, maybe.
Blanchard said before the draft his plans are to play in the fall, but his father, speaking to the paper, says that decision rests not solely with Blanchard, but with what the Tampa Bay organization allows Blanchard to do.
Blanchard was one of 12 OVC players drafted in this week’s MLB Draft.
