Offensive lineman Taylor Johnstone missed the Gamecocks season opener due to an ongoing academic issue with the NCAA. His reinstatement will have to wait at least another three weeks.
According to the Anniston Star, Johnstone will be forced to miss the next three games, as the school awaits an NCAA ruling on his eligibility. According to the paper, the issue is related to Johnstone’s progress toward his degree. He apparently passed 30 hours during the summer, but because he has changed his major twice he is reportedly one hour shy of the benchmark set by the NCAA.
The school has appealed, but that decision isn’t coming soon, at least not soon enough.
Jacksonville State needs all the help they can get on the offensive line, especially for their rushing attack, which struggled in the Gamecocks season opener.
The good news: there are no conference games until after the NCAA decision is expected to come down.
