Southeast Missouri heads into Ohio Valley Conference play this Saturday still searching for their first win of the season at 0-3, and it doesn’t get any easier. The Redhawks will have a tough test ahead of them against Tennessee Martin, who are 2-1 and ranked #23 in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 poll. UT-Martin has wins over Chattanooga and 13th ranked Central Arkansas, only loss coming on the road to Boise State.

It’s been quite a non-con schedule for Southeast playing at Ole Miss and at Busch Stadium, the first ever College Football at Busch against Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois.

After a derailing 45-7 loss to Southeastern Louisiana to open up the season, things have been improving despite being 0-3. SEMO shut out Ole Miss 13-0 in the second half after losing 31-13. SEMO gave up less points to Ole Miss than Texas did as Ole Miss thrashed Texas 44-23.

At Busch Stadium, SEMO kept it close against a good SIU team which the game was tied at 19 midway through the 3rd quarter after SIU ran away scoring 17 unanswered points. Southern Illinois defeated SEMO for the third straight season.

The Redhawks will finally have their first true home game of the season here in Week 5 of the College Football season. Southeast was officially the home team last week in the neutral site game with SIU. Maybe a home opener is what SEMO needs after a rough 0-3 start to jolt them in to OVC play.

Finishing last year at 3-8 and 2-6 in the OVC, SEMO won their OVC opener in a thrilling 41-38 victory over Tennessee Tech in double overtime which happened to be on family weekend. How fitting that this game against UT-Martin on Saturday is also on family weekend, so we’ll see what this game has in store as a big crowd is expected Saturday night at Houck Stadium.

In a quarterback battle between Kyle Snyder and Scott Lathrop, Snyder took all the snaps from center last game throwing for 249 yards, 17-33 with three touchdowns and one interception.

Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m. on Saturday night as OVC play heads into full swing.
