Only one team remains undefeated, but not everyone is buying Jacksonville State just quite yet. In fact, not a single voter put the 4-0 Gamecocks at the top of their ballot. Here are your Week 5 Power Rankings.

The Panthers remain the target of the conference and the pressure could be even bigger after their performances in the non conference schedule. The kicking game is what could hold this team back but with an offense that puts points on the board like nothing, it can be overcome.

UT Martin might not get any love from FCS coaches but we all seem to love them and even the conference seems a bit angered at the Skyhawks being skipped over once again. The Skyhawks can do something about that, just keep playing and winning. With their defense they can do that, and the offense only gets better.

Three wins by less than a touchdown, two in overtime. You can look at them in one of two lights. Either they are very lucky or they don’t give up until the final whistle. Whatever it is, JSU fans will take the results just not the heart attacks that they cause.

If you look at which team has gotten better each week you have to point to the Tigers. The offense has come alive with their quarterback room producing, the emergence of a top running back. The reason we expected big things this season was the defense. They have an interception in every game this year and are averaging 3 takeaways a game.

The Colonels are an interesting team to watch. In the games they are supposed to win they have done their job in dominating fashion. In games that test the team, Eastern Kentucky has come up way short. The offense is perfectly balanced, but the reason why EKU has stuggled is the defense. On the season the team has a +3 yard differential against their defense.

Just like the Golden Eagles, the Racers need the offense to keep them in the game or it will be over. They have to score 35 points a game to win a ball game, that’s how it has been for years and even with a new defense it hasn’t changed. Murray State is a balanced offense? The numbers are misleading because of the mobility of their quarterback, which was supposed to make the offense more open has led defenses to stay close to the line and just double team Walter Powell.

I don’t know what to think of the gritty Golden Eagles. With less than 100 pass attempts on the year, you have to wonder where the pass happy Golden Eagles have gone. Just like EKU a few weeks ago, now TTU is led by their quarterback in the running carries. This team doesn’t have the defense to stop teams, so the offense is going to have to step up or it could be another long season in Cookeville.

The playbook opened up for the Redhawks, maybe it was the bye week or the team getting healthy at the quarterback position but SEMO needs to keep this going. Since the rush defense is going to be rough this season, you are going to have less time with the ball and be forced to throw the ball to keep in the game.

What to say about the Governor’s who are where we expected them to be, with a zero in the win column heading into their bye week. As I pull up the cumulative season stats for Austin Peay I begin worry. Outscored 163-13 to begin the season, we asked ourselves how would the team react after the bye week. Players have been destroyed and for Gov fans you have to hope head coach Kirby Cannon can keep the players focused and playing hard. It doesn’t get any easier when they open conference play.
