The OVC has released this year’s ESPN televised games, and immediately I noticed one thing: It’s smaller than last year. Much smaller.
In 2012-13, ESPN originally featured 7 regular-season games across their TV networks (not including ESPN3.com), and added one late in the year. This season?
Four. Here’s the slate.
- January 16: Belmont at Eastern Kentucky (ESPNU)
- February 6: Murray State at Belmont (ESPNU)
- February 8: Morehead State at Eastern Kentucky (ESPNU)
- February 13: Tennessee State at Belmont (ESPNU)
This really shows just how fickle the OVC’s stock can be. Last year’s expanded slate was without question a product of Murray State’s amazing season the year before. While the OVC was as a whole better last season than the year before, without that “superstar” team, (and none expected to be that team this year) the TV slate has been cut by nearly half.
If a school like Eastern Kentucky or Belmont can make a run this year, games might be added. But this is another indication that the people, including the Worldwide Leader, are expecting an OVC slide than the conference continuing to rise.
The conference tournament will be televised as it was last year, with the semifinals on ESPNU / ESPN3, and the finals on ESPN 2.
