After only one OVC player, Isaiah Canaan, was picked in last year’s draft, you may remember us saying that it wasn’t the end of the road for at least two others with NBA aspirations. Today, those dreams appear to have been realized.
Three former Ohio Valley Conference players, Murray State’s Isaiah Canaan, (Rockets) Tennessee State’s Robert Covington, (Rockets) and Belmont’s Ian Clark (Jazz) have all made opening day NBA Rosters. They join fellow former-OVCer Kenneth Faried, (Nuggets) on team rosters this season.
Canaan was drafted in the second round by the Rockets, while Covington and Clark were eventually picked up for summer league rosters.
Former OVC standout Lester Hudson was cut from the Utah Jazz as part of the final roster cuts.
All three rookies have guaranteed contracts for this season. Clark will get paid $200,000, Covington $150,000. Canaan will make $570,250 this season, the first of his 3-year, $2.3 million dollar contract.
