We are seven games into the season and everything is starting to fall into line. We are just one more week away from the game that I personally have been waiting for since last year. While that is in the future, we focus on the present and rank the conference once again

The Panthers ran up the stats on Austin Peay and you have to hope that football karma doesn’t come back to haunt them. They only know one way to play football and most opposing fans aren’t going to like it. It involves passing even with backups.

JSU Head Coach Bill Clark said the Tiger defense looked like a SEC defense with their size. They only run a base defense with players having the ability to make plays as they happen. Offense continues to shine but quarterback Michael German was banged up last week.

The Colonels come back after a much needed bye and have two winnable games the next two weeks. Like Jacksonville State, the offense needs to establish a running game. Unlike JSU, the Colonels don’t know who their top two running backs are. The defense continues to be the one having to win games if their offense can’t be stable.

That quarterback battle is a real thing after Jarod Neal led the Skyhawks to a win right? One thing Head Coach Jason Simpson has stressed is protecting the ball and Neal didn’t do that. Yes they got the win, but it was the defense that won the game once again.

The Gamecocks dependence on the running game was seen last week and will be even more important as the season continues. With an injured Max Shortell and two wide receivers possibly done for the season, it’s all on Troymaine Pope, DaMarcus James and the offensive line.

The Racers lived off of opposing team’s mistakes in order to escape with victories. Well it turned out that strategy cost them a game as two key mistakes by quarterback Maikhail Miller lost them the game. Head Coach Chris Hatcher gets the blame as well for being aggressive when the team didn’t need to up seven in field goal range.

The Redhawks have finally made a quarterback decision, well maybe. Scott Lathrop has looked good this season and led the team on a game-tying drive that propelled the team into overtime and a win. The team has been making progress each week and could continue to give other teams problems.

A healthy as the are going to be Golden Eagles team once again drops a close game. The team plays best in the fourth quarter then they try to rally from behind but fall short. Maybe the first three quarters should have this mentality too.

Just focusing on the Governors, they had their best offensive output of the season last week against Eastern Illinois. The time has come for backup quarterback Jacob Sexton to get his shot at starting for the Govs due to the offense looking smooth with him under center.
