Just as we begin to buy stock in a team, they lose making the battle for second place in the conference even more wild. While the conference has three teams ranked in the polls, does that mean they are our top three? Here is our latest attempt at ranking the conference

The Panthers are ranked fourth in the nation and until they lose two game in conference they are our lock for the top of the conference, as they have been since late October last season. Will be interesting to see if there were changes made during the bye week to the kicking game.

Winners of five straight games and the best defense in the FCS, the Tigers just get strong and stronger reminding us that if you are going to lose, lose early. While there is a “quarterback” battle, both have been productive and the running game has two running backs that can go off for huge games.

The Gamecocks go on the road and throw the first half and run the second half and do it pretty easily against what we thought was a good Skyhawk defense. The balanced attack of the Gamecocks will be difficult for any defense to stop but they already have one conference loss and can’t afford a second.

The play calling changed for the Skyhawks and we don’t like it. The offensive line couldn’t protect the quarterback at all and made pass plays look like play action. This team depends on the ground game and if it is gone, oh no. The defense had a bad game but continues to be exposed through the air.

Its a see-saw for the Murray State Racers who sit at 2-0 in the conference but we still aren’t buying the team. We have yet to see consistency on both sides of the ball something we must see if they want to rise. They might not have to for the rest of the month with their schedule though.

The Colonels return to their bread and butter, focusing on the ground attack. Just like UT Martin if the ground game is having a bad day, then it all comes down to the arm of their quarterback which has been inconsistent.

Last season the injury bug hit the then defending champs hard and it seems that the bug is still in town. Sixth straight game with multiple quarterbacks being used and now their top two quarterbacks are dinged up, along with their top running back and leading receiver. Long season once again for the fans in Cookeville.

Speaking of a long season, fans on twitter are saying SEMO might not win a game. They do have a Division II game in November but this team has shown flashes of what they could be on one or two drives a game. If only they can find a way to raise that to six or seven.

Coming off another rough performance, things don’t get any easier for the Govs. The ground game which had been improving every week this season ran into a brick wall. The defense is still pretty good, holding the preseason number two to just seven points in the first quarter and they will strip the ball. Still a perfect five for five in forcing and recovering fumbles.
