The hits just keep on coming for the team picked to finish atop the OVC’s West Division. A spokesperson with the Southeast Missouri athletics department has confirmed that guard A.J. Jones has withdrawn from the University. No reason was immediately clear.
Jones was expected to be a starter on a Redhawks team this year that graduated a lot of talent in the backcourt the season before. Jones played in 33 games last season, averaging 8.6 points and shooting 43% from 3-point range. He scored at least 20 points in a game on three occasions last season, including a late-season win over Murray State.
It’s not clear if Jones will attempt to enroll in another school, and transfer.
The Redhawks are already playing shorthanded in the first two games of the year, after Tyler Stone and Nino Johnson were suspended for a violation of team rules.
