We finally have some games under out belt, but it hasn’t really cleared up the OVC picture just yet. Overall, the OVC is off to an 11-17 non-conference start (not including games against lower Division teams) with few really great wins to hang the conference’s hat on.

As expected in the early Power Rankings, there’s a fair bit of dissension between the fans and the writers. In fact, there’s quite a bit of dissension between the writers and the other writers.

They've taken a loss this year, but they're still the unanimous number one for now. Eric Stutz appears healthy, and EKU could use the help on the interior. They don't appear to be a mid-major power this year, but that might not be needed to win the OVC.

It didn't take long for our first disagreement between the fans and writers. Belmont is off to a 1-1 start this year, and haven't looked overly impressive. They're young, and should get better throughout the year, but need J.J. Mann to start hitting shots.

Southeast Missouri had a tumultuous first week with suspensions and a player leaving the school on the morning of the first game. They looked good early shorthanded against a very good St. Louis team, and won easily against a lower division opponent. The biggest surprise: Jarkevious Bradley. He's going to be a player to watch out for.

And the split decisions keep on coming. Murray State isn't having a great start to the year either, down to just eight scholarship players until mid-December. They have a tough non-conference slate, but their eyes are on January, when they should be much better in time for conference play.

The new foul rules haven't been any more of a disaster than they were last season for Morehead State. We still want to see the Eagles tested, but they're off to a good start, and very exciting to watch.

Without a doubt, the biggest winners in Week one. This year's version of the Golden Eagles are already showing they can score, a major weakness last year. Turnovers are somewhat concerning early, but this team looks much improved from a team that nearly made the OVC Tournament in the much tougher division last season.

We get a much better look at Austin Peay tonight as they face Memphis, but Austin Peay struggled somewhat in a win over lower-division Oakland Baptist in their opener. We're still hopeful, and keeping them in the middle of the pack until we have a reason otherwise.

This is where the rankings basically fell off the rails. Eastern Illinois didn't look great in a narrower that hoped for win over an NAIA team last night, but they were shorthanded. The biggest concern: how badly injured was Sherman Blandford's ankle.

Jacksonville State hasn't looked good in their first three games, and were all over the place on ballots. We think they have talent, they've played good competition, but at some point we've got to start expecting wins.

The bottom three ranks are all tied, which is actually about right. UT Martin is off to an 0-3 start, and not shooting well at all, but their missing key pieces. I really feel this team will be a challenge when their healthy, but until they do I can't blame voters for keeping the Skyhawks low on their ballots.

In my opinion, no team has looked worse. They're 0-3, and haven't been competitive on the offensive end, yet to score more than 55 points in the game. Patrick Miller can't carry this team on his back.

The injury last night to Kris Davis is concerning, but it's hard to get too much of a read on SIUE as they've faced far superior competition. They have a lot to figure out, but it seems like they have good pieces if they could figure out how to put them together.
