If you’re looking for agreement, this isn’t the place to go. With a new season on the horizon, our first poll of the conference has quite a lot of division.

The one thing everyone can agree on: Eastern Kentucky should win the Ohio Valley Conference.

It's unanimous. Eastern Kentucky is basking in the glory of their preseason selections to win the conference, and it's no different from our Power Rankings voters. The pressure is on, as the Colonels look for their first regular season conference title in 30 years.

It's rare when last year's champions aren't picked to win it all again. Belmont lost a lot of pieces from that team, but appear reloaded with shooters. Just, don't expect the rebounding to be much better this season.

The clear pick to win the West by our power ranking voters, just one fan voter put the Redhawks above the Bruins for second. They may be the favorite, but living up to expectations has been somewhat of a struggle over the past few years. The question for this team: What do they get out of their guards?

This is the first real division among our voters. Even without Zay Jackson, and a untested group of young players, only one voter put Murray any lower than second in the West Divison. History may agree, but the game isn't played based on past performances. A tough non-conference schedule awaits the Racers

If there's a team that should be worried about the change in rules involving fouls, it's Morehead State. The Eagles already had free-throw fest in their exhibition game, and will likely see quite a few more. The lineup has undergone some major changes, and the run-and-gun style is expected to get even faster in Sean Woods second season.

Austin Peay fell between fifth and eighth on every voter's ballot. The Governors have undergone some changes as well, especially in the backcourt, which could make Travis Betran and even greater weapon this season.

Two coaches at media day called Jacksonville State a "dark horse" this season without so much as being asked. The Gamecocks were 8-8 in the tougher East Division last season, but were ineligible to play in the postseason. The question: can James Green's trademark tough-nosed defense withstand the new rules?

Eastern Illinois ranked as high as fifth on my ballot, but one fan voter put the Panthers 11th. Last year's team played about as slow as the game of basketball allows, but coach Jay Spoonhour expects that to change. There are a lot of new faces once again in Charleston, but a solid core of four players do return for one of the stronger finishers last season.

The coaches and AD's picked UT Martin over Eastern Illinois, but only one voter agreed. The Skyhawks will be without star Myles Taylor for the first few weeks, but it appears he'll be easily be back in time for OVC play. The Skyhawks return almost their entire roster from last season's OVC Tournament team.

Of last year's OVC semifinalists, Tennessee State didn't lose the most of their production, (that would be Murray State) but prospects are much dimmer for the Tigers. All-OVC selection Patrick Miller returns, and could play more off the ball on offense this year, if head coach Travis Williams is to be believed.

Between injuries and youth, Tennessee Tech just didn't have the scoring to compete last year in the East Division. Jeremiah Samarrippas is healthy, and while Jud Dillard may be gone, Dennis Ogbe appears to be poised for a big year. Head coach Steve Payne feels this year's team has more talent spread out, and will be more balanced as a result.

Ah, SIUE. The good news is you play in the weaker West Division. The even better news is you looked quite solid in your exhibition game. The Cougars don't have much in the way of respect, finishing last on all but one ballot, but it's just the preseason. A lot can change as the year goes on.
