The three’s weren’t falling for a pair of OVC teams, but they both notch nice home wins none-the-less.
Wright State 69, Morehead State 74
Morehead State gets to the line more than any other Ohio Valley Conference team so far this season, and that knack came in handy tonight. The Eagles hit 23-32 from the line, making up for 1-16 shooting behind the arc, as they hold off Wright State to stay perfect at home on the year. Angelo Warner led the way with 19 points, and Chad Posthumus posted his fifth double-double of the year. Wright State missed the front-ends of three one-and-one’s in the final five minutes of the game, helping seal their fate.
Texas Pan-American 49, SIU Edwardsville 55
It wasn’t the offense showing we’ve come to expect from the Cougars, but the defense has their best game of the year as the SIUE picks up their second home win. UTPA turns the ball over 15 times, and shoots just 35% from the field, and 53% from the free-throw line in the loss. Christian Salecich scores a team high 16 points, but Rozell Nunn hits 4-4 from behind the arc on a night the Cougars struggled. (Why I think that was) Keaton Jackson has four blocks in an impressive defensive night off the bench.
Player of the Night: Chad Posthumus, Morehead State. Another 12 rebounds tonight, which is actually slightly below his 12.5 average for the season. He’s an absolute monster on the inside, and one reason Morehead State is a real threat when conference play rolls around.
Unsung Hero: Billy Reader, Morehead State. Reader scored 14 points on 7-9 shooting from the field, but it’s his dunk with 25 seconds remaining that helps seal the win for the Eagles.
Team Trending Upwards: SIU Edwardsville. Yes, they shot terrible. But the defense was much, much improved, which is key for them to have any sustained success.
Team Trending Downwards: No one. Morehead State got a win, but it wasn’t overly impressive, at least nothing more or less than we’ve seen from them so far. They get a much bigger test at Southern Mississippi on Wednesday.
