Okay, somebody explain to me how that happened.

As I began to write an article about how the East Division was going to heat up and Sean Woods getting his biggest win as a head coach, came the complete implosion by the Eagles.

With the score 72-65 with just ninety seconds left to play, the Morehead student section (which was rocking tonight with the blackout) started to sense the victory. OVC teams are learning, Belmont doesn’t stop until that clock reads all zeros.

Not so fast my friend. *Lee Corso voice*

This wasn’t, however, the typical Belmont comeback. Where they string together 3 or so shots from long range, like they did against UNC earlier in the season.

This was simple free throws and layups. (And maybe a little help from a favorable whistle)

After J.J. Mann sank two free throws, Luka Pajkovic (a guy who needs a hug right now more than ever) turned it over and Reese Chamberlain finished with a lay-up cutting the lead to three at 73-70 with 56 seconds left.

Morehead State was then called for five seconds and much to the dismay of the crowd, a foul was called on Greg Dotson moments later.

Evan Bradds would make one free throw to make it 73-71.

Mr. Wireman, interesting foul calls is kind of our thing here in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Pajkovic would get fouled and miss both free throws, giving the Bruins back the ball with about 30 seconds left to play.

Reese Chamberlain would finish another lay up on the other end to tie the game at 73.

I think we all knew what was coming next. Belmont does not forgo opportunities like this. They just don’t.

Morehead State could not handle the pressure and out of a timeout, Pajkovic turned it over again.

Mann would drive it to the basket, put it off the glass and give the Bruins the lead at 75-73

Pajkovic, was then called for hooking, giving the ball back to Belmont with a chance to seal it. I’m still not sure whether this was the correct call or not but one thing is for sure, that has got to be the most brutal 49 seconds of basketball Luka Pajkovic has ever played.

Trailing by three, Morehead State would have one last chance to tie it. But, with the way things were going did anyone actually think that was going to happen?

Angelo Warner’s attempt didn’t even draw iron and Belmont survived. They did.

As I write this, I am still in shock. I shouldn’t be. This is trademark Belmont. This is what they do.

#RickByrdisYoda Has to be trending worldwide. Is it not?

Belmont now has a 2 game lead in the East with just 7 to play.

I’m sure there will be more from this game tomorrow.

A monumental collapse of epic proportion by Morehead! You have to play with the players that are available, but can't help but think that if Kareem Storey hadn't been injured at Belmont that Morehead would not have had the issues at the FT line and the turnovers late in the game. Excellent job by Belmont for not giving up!!!!
