If you like offense, this was the game for you. Belmont hit 17 threes in a 107-94 thrashing tonight in Cape Girardeau. Belmont improves to 3-0 in OVC play, meanwhile SEMO, the Co-OVC West favorites, have fallen to a concerning 0-3 (8-8 overall).
It hasn’t been the easiest three games to open up conference play for the Redhawks, losing to at Murray State and at Austin Peay, then back at home vs Belmont. Conference play on the road is just tough for anybody. But then again, if you’re the favorites, you should be able to take care of at least one of those games.
Auburn transfer Josh Langford was impressive all throughout the game tonight. Langford had 22 points, scoring SEMO’s first 11 out of the gate. Jarekious Bradley led the way for SEMO with 27 points. However, SEMO just couldn’t stop Belmont as the Bruins pulled away in the end. J.J. Mann led Belmont with 25 points and three triples.
SEMO does deserve credit for hanging tough early, down by just five at the half (55-50). It was just Belmont’s night, going away with the 107-94 victory.
SEMO has lost four straight, but this team will figure it out. It’s still early in conference play, but 0-3 is not the way you want to start out. They’ll be due for a conference win, and all signs point to that on Saturday, when they’re back at home vs Tennessee State.
