For long time followers of the site, I love the idea of “regional rivals,” games against nearby teams that both fan bases can drive to. This is one of those series that makes too much sense to not have.

According to WBKO, WKU and Belmont will kick off a four-year series in Diddle Arena next season. The Hilltoppers will then head to the Curb Events Center in 2015-16.

While Murray State fans may take a little umbrage with the Bruins shoeing in on their turf (Murray and Western are rivals, after all) this is really a win-win for both fan bases. It’s about an hour drive between the cities, and the games could be very competitive based on these team’s past few seasons.

Must say an excellent non-conference rivalry. A good decision for both Belmont and WKU.
